This book is destined to be a classic book that will be remembered long after it is out of print. It has great detail on individual low water use plants on how to grow them and care for them. If I could only have one book on low water use desert plants, this would be the book.

This is an excellent book on information about desert plants. Not much in the way of pictures, but heavy on information. I refer to it constantly when I need information about the desert plants in my yard or ones I'm buying. Has a grid on pruning times, flowering times, etc.

Qi, The Treasure and Power of Your Body by Yanling Johnson is a practical guide to beginning practice of qigong, meditative exercise to facilitgate the vital flow of energy through the body. The book contains tips related to philosophy, visualization, movement, and diet leading to a healthy life. I have found the practice of qigong, as explained in this book, to have a calming and energizing effect, producing holistic health benefits. The book is a useful aid in answering questions about specific health concerns and in gaining a full appreciation of Qigong through examining its roots in ancient Chinese medicine. I highly recommend it.

Yanling Johnson presents a wealth of information for the first time qigong student while also including a chapter for qigong healers and teachers. I found the short forms for self healing gong well chosen and very useful. This book is an excellent resource for qigong students, teachers and practioners.

"Quilting and Braiding" is an excellent scholarly analysis of the Christologies of two leading feminist theologians. Schrein compares and contrasts these two theologians and offers a fair critique of both women's positions. In her first two chapters, Schrein examines the foundational thought of both McFague and Johnson, and explains the theological influences on both women. She proceeds to give a detailed explaination of both women's positions in Christology. McFague, coming from a Protestant background, is a constructionist at heart and seeks to find new ways of understanding Jesus as Christ, which eventually leads to her focus on the "cosmic Christ" rather than the person of Jesus and his particular message. Johnson, on the other hand (a Catholic), is a reformist and deconstructionist in her thought and seeks to extract from Christian tradition that which is valuable for the purpose of liberation; her Christology follows along the same lines and she is deeply concerned with getting as close as possible to the historical Jesus in order to further ascertain the true meaning of his ministry and, thus, a more meaningful understanding of the Christ for our time. This perspective leads to her focus on Jesus' teachings on the reign of God. In the end, Schrein gives both theologians high regard, but comes to the conclusion that Johnson has a more balanced position; an opinion that I am inclined to agree with. This work is not only valuable for understanding these two leaders in feminist theology, but it points to a broader understanding of Christology in the Christian tradition, and represents the value of feminist theology in this topic. A fine piece of work.

This is a great book! This whole series is excellent. I strongly recomend it to all Christian teens 13-15!

Martha Johnson's cookbook is a wonderful collection of recipes of Hill Country, Texas flavors. Easy to follow recipes, producing wonderfully tasteful dishes. A valuable cookbook for any kitchen.

I have enjoyed these recipes immensely. Mrs. Johnson ran a wonderful restaurant in the Hill Country of central Texas for 34 years. This book contains practical and delicious recipes from her years of running the restaurant and loving to cook for family and friends. My personal favorites from this cookbook include Raleigh House Orange Rolls, make-from-scratch pancake mix, and the Raleigh House blueberry muffin mix. Thank goodness for these delicious recipes! This is a must for every collector of cookbooks, or anyone who likes to cook. For those who don't cook, buy this one for those who do!

Tate Whitelaw is the youngest of the Hawk's Way Whitelaws and she is also the only girl. Tate has three very overprotective big brothers. At the age twenty-three Tate runs away and right into the arms of Adam Philips. Adam was first introduced to us in Honey and the Hired Hand, when he was in love with Honey, the woman who eventually married Tates brother Jesse. Tate does not know that Jesse, the brother that she lost touch with, is living at the neighboring ranch. Adam decides that if he tells Tate than she might run off, so he keeps that info to himself. Adam tries to ignore the sexual feelings that he has for Tate, but eventually he gives in. Tate goes in town for a doctors visit and on her way out she runs into Honey Whitelaw her brothers new bride. Tate invites them over for supper. Only Jesse shows up mad as heck to get Tate away from Adam. Jesse is sure that Adam is using her. She refuses to go, but Jesse returns with Tates other two brothers, a shotgun, and a priest. The brothers fully intend to have Adam make an honest woman of Tate. It is hilarious. I love how protective her brothers are of her. Adam has been hurt in the past and is not sure if he can love and trust Tate. Adam is sure that Tate has been involved with one of the hired hands. Adam has to get over his issues and decide if he can make a future with Tate. I really enjoyed this book, it has been one of my favorites of the Hawks' Way series.

I first found this book at my local library and found it to be one of the best books on investments that I'd read. Since then I've tried to find it for sale here and elsewhere, but have not been able to locate a copy. I hope the publisher will reprint this book someday (even better if they'd update and print a 2nd edition) before I steal the one from the library (I'm joking; but I would like to have a copy of the book).

The SEC should make this required reading for anyone who wants to invest in the stock market. Johnson clarifies what is important and what is not in investing. Even after he shows you how you CAN beat the market, he makes you think about whether you really NEED to beat the market. Much more meaningful than Lynch's pablum.

What this book clearly demonstrates is that effective interpersonal skills are essential to the development and maintenance of any relationship - from family to friendship to work. That many of the personal and professional problems we experience everyday are the result of inadequate communication skills, lack of trust and self-disclosure, and inability to manage conflicts, anger, and stress.

Of special significance to more than half of the US population who report being shy, the author acknowledges the sometimes devastating impact of social fears on relationships and includes a section on working through shyness.

While the book is about skill building, it isn't just an exercise book. On the contrary, it smartly integrates psychological research data, theory, and exercises into a thought-provoking, readable volume. The approach is get-out-there-and-do-it experiential learning. Even though "Reaching Out" is an excellent text for classroom use, it is also very informative, practical, and useful for the self-help reader.

If you work with children or young adults this is a "must have" reference book. My first copy was the fourth edition and I continue to purchace new copies as the editions change. This book breaks down into basic teachable elements complex human interactional dimensions. If you do group work in any context you will benifit from its wisdom. I have used this book in public schools at all grade levels, in therapy groups and family sessions, college courses, and to assist teens with improved social relationships. Human services work benifits from the clear and complete presentation of facts.

This book is a well thought out, logical approach to Critical Race Theory. The authors masterfully discuss and illustrate the concepts behind Critical Race Theory. A refreshingly honest approach without the paranoid Polly-Anna bent that has taken over some of the more high-profile personalities in the Critical Race Theory. I highly recommend this book to anyone who seriously contemplates race and the American society...

This book is a "must read" for anyone interested in the serious study of civil rights in the modern multiracial United States. The authors have collected readings from a group of influential legal scholars considering a wide range of civil rights issues, from affirmative action, employment discrimination and hate speech to immigration law, language regulation, gender and sexual orietnation. Tightly edited, the selections are accessible and fascinating. Each chapter has a concise introduction, placing the chapter's readings into historical and legal context, and concludes with questions and suggested readings. The book is quite an achievement and well worth reading by civil rights scholars and students alike.

I'm just beginning my career as an elementary school teacher. I've taught creative writing to both 6th and 3rd graders. My only gripe with Katie Johnson's book is not having found it sooner! Reading this book is like having a conversation with an experienced and trusted colleague. It's mentoring in a book. Ms. Johnson takes you by the hand and shows you step by step how to take the literature you are already using in your classrooms to teach creative writing. This book overflows with marvelous ideas you can begin using today. Whether you're trying to teach an eleven year-old how to write a good lead or help an 8 year-old move beyond such descriptors as "good" and "nice", this book will point the way. What I find most remarkable about this book is its comprehensive treatment of writing in the elementary grades. Most books seem to be geared toward one grade level or another, but not this one. This book contains engaging lesson ideas for every grade level, K-6. Reading this book is like sitting in the back of a classroom and watching a master teacher at work. It's a gift. Don't miss it.
